Vehicles in Germany's City Discovered Covered with Swastikas in Human Blood, Law Enforcement Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Police reported they were contacted by a man who found a car in Hanau covered with red-colored liquid

Approximately 50 vehicles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.

Cars, walls and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.

Officers state they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.

The liquid had been placed in the form of a swastika, they reported.

Police then discovered multiple other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement state preliminary tests show the fluid was probably human blood.

"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; investigators are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the event," they stated.

Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the public for information.

An important official said the attack made him without words and had to be solved promptly.

"This event affects the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at people of foreign heritage in 2020.
